A comparison of the minds

The literary genius Chinua Achebe author of Things fall apart, the father of African literature in the English language and one of the most important writers of the second half of the twentieth century. Was a remarkable story-teller, with such detailed writing that makes you feel as part of the story line, like a character or just as someone standing in the side lines looking in the world he created. African literature is in itself is a passage trough time, is like navigating through a sea and discovering new lands. Each one of these lands been more beautiful and amazing than the next.
The statement below is not part of the novel, but a response to Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, by Chinua Acebe, “But you have to understand. Art is more than just good sentences; this is what makes this situation tragic. The man is a capable artist and as such I expect better from him. I mean, what is his point in that book? Art is not intended to put people down. If so, then art would ultimately discredit itself.”
Truly if we compare one novel to the other we can see the contrast of both writers. One with the a detail story line that come from the knowledge of the real African history and the other with the vain misconception of all Africans are savages, ignorant and need saving. Keeping in mind Achebe’s statement will help you understand the impact of a writer as an artist to bring art in clean, factual and responsible matter. How responsible are writers today? This irresponsibility has transcended to all types of media. Can this statement be applied in today writers of any type of media? Judge for yourself.

How Chameleon Trucking Companies are a Threat

How Chameleon Trucking Companies are a Threat
If you've never heard the term “chameleon trucking company” before, count yourself lucky—it’s usually something people find out about once they've become a victim. Just like any other industry, if it sounds too good to be true in the moving business, it probably is. There’s a reason hiring movers is relatively expensive: It’s a hard job, they have to carry serious insurance, and long haul moves are getting more expensive as gas prices rise.
A chameleon trucking company does “bad stuff” to your property, then closes up shop and reopens under a new name to avoid legal action. This “bad stuff” can be intentional, such as stealing your property, or it can be unintentional but the owners don’t want to face the music. Maybe they didn’t carry insurance and broke your precious belongings or they hired crooks who took your electronics to a pawn shop.
Pulling a disappearing act doesn’t just cost you—it can actually threaten your life. Here’s how.
What Insurance?
Once a moving company touches your property, they’re in charge of it staying in the same condition as when you handed it off. However, if they’re careless and/or don’t have insurance, what happens if they break your treadmill and don’t take care of it? You could easily hurt yourself and they’ll have already disappeared.
The same could be true of electronics, which can be a fire hazard if damaged. In some extreme instances, these companies can even hold your property for ransom. You’re trusting movers with nearly every speck of your property, and doing so blindly without proper research and put you in harm’s way. Don’t go with the lowest offer unless you’ve properly done your homework.
How They’re Getting Away With It

Surprisingly, chameleon companies get by more often than you think. The property owners are already stressed out and may be in a new location after the move. They can’t get ahold of the moving company, and any physical location listed is suddenly vacant. Filing a police report is the next step, but there are no guarantees. Most chameleon companies are skilled at doing this and have their bases covered.
However, there are still some things you can do—like hire an attorney. If you were physically or emotionally hurt by the actions of a moving company, an injury lawsuit might be a good approach. Partnered with a private investigator if necessary, you might be able to track down those responsible and get restitution for your experience. You can also couple your claim with a property damage lawsuit to maximize potential compensation.
Preying on the Weak

Moving companies know that you’re at a disadvantage while moving. You’re scrambled, stressed and have a lot on your plate. In other words, it’s prime time to pull a scam. You can prevent this by checking references and being wary of low-ball offers. A reputable company will be established with zero BBB complaints and are happy to share testimonials. Why trust yourself to a shady company? You and your property deserve better.

Michigan
Gary Hollins aka Michigan was born in Pontiac ,Michigan where he grew up in a big family with lots of sibilins. His father was a local pimp and Michigan was favored alot over the other children which caused alot of issues and made the siblings have hard feeling towards him. As he grew into a teen Michigan spent alot of his time in juvenile facilities. One day the juvenile officer asked him "what do u like what interest u we have to find something for u to do so u stay out of trouble" Michigan answered by saying music so the juvenile offer gave him several books about writing poems. So from the age of 15 til he was about 20 to 21 he won several awards and had poems in several books.
In 1996 while in county jail 2pac was shot as he watched it all over the news. He began to pray and in his prayer he asked that the lord give him the words to write just like 2pac and became a even better rapper then he was at poems and that started off his music career. After moving from Michigan to Missouri he opened a landscaping company and he decided to invest his money into a clothing store so he closed down the landscaping company and opened his clothing store in downtown Moberly ,Mo after being in business for a lil while and working on his music alot happened and his store was robbed. so he sold out of the clothing business and moved to Macon to continue to work on his music where he got involved with Stix and Move and did over 30 shows at Felisha's in Moberly and began to work on his stage presence and vocal skills while living in Macon his home was raided by police and the drug task force and he was placed in jail.
That's when he found out who his true friends were. so after he was released he started his own label called Break Bread Records.

NEGRTUD Y NEGRISMO: A comparison of blackness

Posted | Views: 1,400

Negritude as for the dictionary is the quality or fact of being of black African origin. It can also be defined as the affirmation of consciousness of the values of black or African culture, heritage and identity. Negritude was a cultural movement started in Paris, in the 1930s, by French speaking blacks. They were black graduated students from French speaking colonies in Africa and the Caribbean. These black intellectuals’ united issues of race identity and black internationalist initiatives to combat French imperialism. It was more than just a fight; they found solidarity and a common reason to fight for their ideals. Like affirming pride in their shared black identity and African heritage, taking back Africa self-respect, reliance and determination.

The Negritude movement was created to harm discredit the long theory of race hierarchy and black inferiority developed by philosophers such Fedrich Hegel and Joseph de Gobineau. The movement attracts names like, anthropologist Leo Frobenius and Maurice Delafosse, who wrote a novel about the abuses and injustices with the French colonial system. We have Andre Brenton, the father of Surrealism, Haitian Jean Price Mars who develop the concept of Indigenism and Cuban Nicolas Guillen, who promoted Negrismo.

Women involved in this movement were as bright as the men. Among them were Jane and Paulette Nardal and a Martinican student by the name of Suzanne Roussi Cesaire usefully outlines Negritude cultural politics. They wrote many articles, Jane Nardal wrote “Exotic puppets, 1928”, Paulette wrote; “In exile, 1929” and Suzane wrote “The Malaise of a civilization.” These women promoted race consciousness through their articles. These publications and many others influenced discussions on race and identity among the black; founded Negritude. We just met the mothers of Negritude, and who are the fathers of Negritude? In 1931the encounter of Cesaire, Senghor and Damas marks the new era of discovery and exploration of their identities as black, African, Antillean and French. The Negritude movement was to be evidence for the world; not only that they were black but also intelligent and capable of magnificent work. Aime Cesaire states, “Negritude is the simple recognition of the fact of one is black, the acceptance of this fact and of our destiny as blacks, of our history and culture.” Negritude positioned black people at the same level as any other race, in a global community of equals.

Each man had a specific way to relate their blackness, they all agreed to their blackness, but the way they express it was totally different. Their passion drove them to glorious work and they also turn into the point of critique of many. Wole Soyinka was a major critic of the movement. He states, “the tiger does not proclaim is tigerness, it jumps on its prey.” He saw no need to claim blackness or greatness trough the movement, like a tiger don’t need to announce itself to its prey, blacks should just let go of such absurd ideology; people already know who they are. “The concept of Negritude is a defining milestone in the rehabilitation of Africa and African diaspora their identity and dignity. It is a driving inspiration behind the current flowering of literature by black Francophone writers, along other Pan-African movements such as the Harlem Renaissance, Garveyism, and Negrismo. Négritude has contributed to writing Africa and its achievements back into history, as well as fostering solidarity among Africans and people of African descent.” (Bertrade Ngo-Ngijol Banoum-Lehman College)

In 1921 Negrismo was born in Cuba. It is the celebration of black-Cuban music, rhythm, folklore, literature, poetry, and art. Negrismo extend not only to the physical body but it brought forth a way to introduce music, dance, instruments, and food, languages, religions, myths, and beliefs. They gave the essence of Africa not as cultured minds but as creators of their own path. They expose the world not only to readings from the best, but also took back through the arts everything lost when the Africans were removed from their country. It was a movement that I believe it was more of the minds than that of a fight. With the works from Nicolas Guillen, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Silvestre de Balboa, Rubén Dariío, and Luis Palés Matos; to mention a few, Negrismo became a way to liberate the soul, identify self and learn about the roots for ever lost. Nicolas Guillen became one of the most influential Cubans in the era of Negrismo. In 1930, “Motivos de Son,” Guillen’s poetry collection was published and Luis Pales Matos’ ”Danza Negra,” literary publications that later became part of the Afro-Caribbean movement. Negrismo represented the Afro-Caribbean culture rising into the changes that will give birth to the most brilliant minds ever misrepresented because of the color of their skin. Negrismo and the Harlem Renaissance were one of the same, valuable music, poetry, paintings, dance, rhythms that paved the changes and resources creating a new vision of the African man. Blackness, been from the African, the Caribbean or the Latin American heritage gave these men and women a reason to fight not with arms but with the pen, the drums and intellect. It was one common goal, that goal was to show the world, who attentively wanted to prove how right were there assumptions about Africans overall.

Negritude and Negrismo were the representation of an era were the Afro-Caribbean’s re-invented themselves demonstrating the capacity and capability is not about color is about intellect. Both movements received a stamp in history and forever becoming the voice of a culture.

Six Trees to Plant in the Northwest to Attract Birds
If you're an avian enthusiast, you likely keep at least one or two feeders and a ready supply of water to attract you local feathered friends. However, if you really want to create a bustling year-round habitat that will draw an active assortment of birds, planting a few well-chosen trees is a good way to go. These six trees are great Northwest choices for livening up your backyard.

1. Birch (Betula)

This large group of deciduous shrubs and trees offers attractive, nectar-laden flowers during the spring (popularly known as catkins), and plentiful seeds in late autumn. These dense-packed grains are irresistible to many small perching birds, including redpolls, chickadees, and pine siskins. Depending on the variety, birches can grow to heights ranging from 3 to 70 feet.

2. Beech (Fagus)

Beech trees are on the medium to small size. After flowering in the spring, they quickly develop prickly fruits containing small brown nuts that make excellent feeding for birds that overwinter locally. Species that enjoy beechnuts include warblers, titmice, chickadees, nuthatches, jays, and some types of woodpecker. Beeches will reach between 20 and 100 feet, and some varieties can even be trimmed to form handsome hedges.
3. Horse Chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum)
The horse chestnut is another deciduous tree that makes a spectacular show of nectar-rich blossoms early in the year, followed by huge palm-shaped leaves that provide ample shelter for birds to perch, nest, and feed in safety. In the fall, the horse chestnut produces a leathery fruit containing nutrient-rich, nutlike seeds. This tree prefers full sun, and grows 30 to 75 feet.
4. Magnolia (Magnolia)
Magnolia trees come in evergreen and deciduous varieties, and can be identified instantly by their dramatic white-to-mauve springtime blooms and thick, waxy leaves. In the late summer, magnolias offer beautiful cone-shaped clusters of bright red seeds that bring in larger perching birds like sapsuckers, vireos, and woodpeckers. Magnolia species enjoy full-sun to partial shade conditions, and reach mature heights between 10 and 80 feet.
5. Redbud (Cercis)
This popular deciduous ornamental offers a breathtaking profusion of magenta-hued flowers in the spring that lead to reddish-brown, beanlike pods that last well into winter. These pods provide a nutrition-packed treat to chickadees, nuthatches, and many other seed-loving birds. Redbuds grow well under full sun and light-shade conditions, and reach heights between 10 and 35 feet.
6. Maple (Acer)
From native vine varieties to bright-colored sugar maples and distinctive Japanese ornamentals, maple trees and shrubs produce a plethora of small, winged nuts relished by robins, warblers, vireos, wrens, finches, and many other birds. Depending on the species, mature maple trees can reach heights between 15 and 35 feet.
