Dear Sofie,
I have a question to ask for a project I’m working on and you came to mind. I’m hoping to respond creatively, in some way, to your answer and include it in my final work. I thought about our conversations when deciding on these questions so hopefully you enjoy answering the one I have chosen for you. So, why are you happy?

Zoey has turned herself in when Detective Marx had come to the House of Night searching for the vampyre that killed two men in a near by park. Zoey gives herself up without a fight and rips the life saver looking Seer Stone from around her throat, never to hold it again. She is then taken to the Station where she is question and put in her own cell for her own safety. Zoey wants to punish herself by making her body reject the change so she tells Marx to keep all adult vampryes away from her even though she might die he tells her that he will keep them out but he lied. Even with her plea he allows her friends and her High Priestess access into the building. Marx had been called off to the Mayo where the evil Neferet is hiding out and with a fight breaking out. Neferet is angry that Zoey had gotten credit for killing the two men when in all actuality Neferet was the ones behind their deaths. Upon hearing this Marx races back to the jail and releases Zoey from her cell to tell her the truth about what happened. Zoey and her friends are all relieved about her innocence but that relief doesn't last long. After she is released they must find a way to defeat Neferet but with all the humans flocking to the House of Night there is to much chaos going on to really have time to brainstorm.
Soon after Neferet decides that she must make a barrier to protect herself and her hostages by killing 60 of them to fulfill the blood promise. Once Thanatos hears about this she, Zoey, her friends, Marx and Kalona all head to the Mayo to help the murdered souls enter the Otherworld. As Thanatos releases her spell Neferet comes out and attacks her with her dark tendrils but Kalona is there to protect them all even though he himself is wounded badly afterwards. Once Neferet slithers back into the Mayo Thanatos notices the dark covering over the building and finds out that Marx and his other men's bullets bounced off and wounded the ones that shot at it.
They head back to the House of Night and regroup, still trying to figure out what they are to do about Neferet when she beings to throw her hostages off the roof . . . Kalona who is supposed to be immortal ends up being killed when he is shot by Neferet's dark bullets and once he is taken to Thanatos she helps him to the Otherworld. Thanatos and Shaunee must keep up the spell that keep Neferet in the Mayo otherwise she will kill everyone. In the end Thanatos died because Neferet breaks it with her Darkness. Zoey and her friends must lure Neferet to the park and seal her within the ground like Kalona had so long ago. Zoey must use the Seer Stone to defeat her and also the help of the Fey who want to take her love away. She attacks Neferet and ends up somehow getting her into the ground when she tries to break free. In the end the love that Zoey loses is Aurox who uses the old Magick within himself to fully seal her away for good.

12 Days of Christmas D.I.Y.
D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself) pieces have been getting a lot of buzz lately. It’s no surprise considering it’s the time of year when folks pinch their pennies to get a couple more gifts or the winter vacation that they swear is going to spare their life from the bitter cold weather. We’ve all been there trying to save a little cash so we have gathered up twelve ways to liven up your homes for the holidays but keep you from breaking the bank. Do the craft to save some cash!
1) Scrabble Ornaments:
Do you ever have the problem that you just can’t find an ornament that has the right word, phrase, or name? A cute easy solution is to round up scrabble pieces that spell your desired word or phrase. You then have two options of how you want to assemble your ornament. Either you can glue your pieces together to form one long section, or you can find a cute background such as a section of wood, part of a ruler, or even some ribbon to glue each piece onto. After the glue has dried, you can make a small whole at the top of your ornament and loop some ribbon through it to use as a hook. You can also add other embellishments such as stick on snowflakes and little pieces of holly ("Dimples and Tangles: SCRABBLE TILE ORNAMENTS").

  Up Braids
French Tuck
Wrapped Braid
For a fancier look, braided buns are also fairly easy but a little more time consuming. If it is a hot day do the three strand braided bun. Do a three strand braid and then tuck and wrap it around its self, till it is a little wrapped ball at the nape of your neck.
There is also the Tucked French braid. Do a normal French braid and tuck it up under its self and secure it with either hair pins or a hair clip. This is a good one for going out because it looks soft and sweet.
Hair Pins
Really thick and long hair might want to use hair pins instead of bobby pins to secure the bun because they are longer and have more grip. (If you have problems with getting bobby pins to work in your hair it is probably because they are either too big or too small, usually too small).
Bobby Pins
Of all the different types of braided buns these are the two I use the most. Very easy, very quick, giving a little more refined look then just a plain braid. With any style, though, remember that it will give an image. For example, recently I tried the “very in style” Milkmaid Braid where you make a braid on either side of the head then wrap them around and hair pin them on top so they are making a crown. I ended up not liking it because it took me forever to do and when I was finished it was really loose and felt like it was going to fall out and it made me look like… a milkmaid! Surprise!

Conversations with Myself

What represents happiness to me?

If I have to narrow it down, it would be the unconscious expression of a body in motion. A startled laugh, limbs moving to the music or complete elation when a breeze blows through your hair. When you don’t have time to think or be constricted by what is socially acceptable. When you are moved to tears or when you declare your love for a stranger through wine-hazed vision. Happiness to me is freedom.

do you know

Do you know what it’s like to wake up and not fear war?

To smile at a stranger and not fear any sort of prosecution?

To be educated, despite your gender.

To raise your hand and disagree.

To drink freely, in the company of friends and know that you are free to enjoy
yourselves.

To listen to any type of music, by any sort of artist, singing about whatever they like.

I do.

Hopefully you do too.

NP: What represents happiness to you?
AC: Happiness is being excited about what you've got to look forward to in the near and distant future. Its being relatively content with where you are in the world in regards to everything - friends, family, career, work/life balance, money, physique etc and not having any major stress in your life, whether that stress is real or entirely in your own mind.

Dear Sofie,

Your answer is wonderful. I’ve really struggled with some parts of this project but this exchange, this is what I was hoping for when I started this. To be that self aware and search for little snippets of happiness in others and their projects, that is in my eyes a worthy pursuit of happiness. Although, it is not my place to define the worthiness of such pursuits. To be conscious of someone else’s expansion of happiness through art or music is very similar to my idea of happiness. Genuine emotion is a huge part of my definition because there is no room to be shy or stop yourself from swearing when you are completely overwhelmed with emotion.

I can’t thank you enough for answering my question and helping me out. I’ll miss you when I go overseas but I know you’re rooting for me to do this and it is something I need. Travel is an undeniable freedom and I hope to be thoroughly cast in the deep end with this first solo trip. How did you manage Laos with the language barrier? Did you speak English?

I’ll send you a post card. I’m not sure how reliable these jungle mail men are but it’ll find its way to you, somehow.
