Carolein Smit - Sculptures

Posted | Views: 17,487

The figurative sculptures of artist Carolein Smit exude an intriguing element of the macabre within their delicate husks. Often meditations on spiritual mythology and private despair, the figurative sculptures emanate a powerful sway over the viewer, much akin to how religious sculptures can incite spiritual revelation within faithful followers. The visceral additions of blood, cocoons of hair, and reliquary bones are balanced with the pale, ethereal tones of the ceramic, illuminating the interesting juxtaposition of the contradictory nature of mythology and psychological landscapes.

How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse

By Kristy Brainsikk

If you happen to be in jail for killing a seahorse and there's an outbrake of zombies running amuck, don't fret just call The Cock, dad gum it!

During the zombie apocalypse, don't sleep with a whore. Because if she turns out to be a zombie, you won't get lucky!

One way to scare off a zombie during an apocalypse is to stare him/her right in the face and say 'I warn you, if you cross me I will fuckin cut you dowwnn!' The zombie should react by skipping away in fear.

During a zombie attack, never trust a bunch of weirdos because they might feed you to the zombies.. or make you drink a hobo's pee.

Another way to scare the zombies is by putting on a dress (cause let's face it you'll look ugly in it). But a fair warning, you might start to like it because you know its wrong but it feeeelsss soooo riiigghhhttt.

If your ending is anything like the one black dude in Night of The Living Dead, you might make sure every shot misses ya. Even the cops (though frank may deserve it from peeing in his drink).

Welp everybody, that's all the tips I got for ya. If you do them all, then you're the winner! Yep, this how to will totally save your from zombies.

Warning: This how to will not save your life. If you use any of the tips from this how to, zombies are sure to eat your brains and fresh. I repeat, if you use these tips then you are a moron.

Budget Design Tips

Posted | Views: 2,224

The best thing to do on a budget is to mix and match products. Kind of the same idea as wearing a Forever 21 dress and then wearing Lanvin shoes. I recommend never buying a furniture set, but by adding dimension by mixing it up. That way you can buy your basic pieces like a sofa or a bed and then add other pieces at your own pace and budget. You will want to buy your basic furniture pieces like a sofa from a reputable store but it doesn’t need to be the most expensive. Just make sure it’s comfortable and has nice basic lines. Then you can dress it up with fabric and throw pillows. Also, there are great affordable choices for end tables and coffee tables that you can dress up using books, trays, lamps, or small objects. Things like a nice area rug or drapery is also a really great tip that can change a space instantaneously. You can get drapery anywhere now from a simple roman shade to drapery panels with just as many options of hardware.

When he was in the studio creating his new solo album called Calling All Corpses, he took a few pictures and put them on Facebook that made people wonder alittle bit what was going on.

His caption to this picture was 'new wizard at the studio'. Yay for his new pretty awesome toy!

His caption to this picture was 'What would I need a guitar for and 10 days in the studio?' and of course evvverryyyonnneee freaked out!

Look boys and girls, it's frank! His caption for this one was 'Some friends came to the studio.' Fans commented it wondering why they were there..

Hi I'm Billy!! lol :p

Wednesday's caption to this was 'Billy is going to help too' So that means the new album will be just alittle bit retarded.. that's okay :)

The Simpson's creator Matt Groening

did work for Apple.

In this booklet, dating all the way back to 1989, there are quite a few Matt Groening pieces, and a handful of glimpses at old school MACs, and the commercial concepts that accompanied them.

Apparently Matt Groening did some illustration work for MAC back in the days.

Born in 1954. Lives in Vienna and Limberg, Austria. There's something amazing about these bloated cars. Check these out.

"If you approach things with a sense of humor, people immediately assume you're not to be taken seriously. But I think truths about society and human existence can be approached in different ways. You don't always have to be deadly serious. Sarcasm and humor can help you see things in a lighter vein."

X-Men: First Class

Posted | Views: 1,277

Some of us 'Arcaders' went to see X-Men: First Class last night, and we all agreed, it was certainly a treat.

Starting off showing a young Magneto showcasing his powers in a Nazi concentration camp the film quickly develops and hops from location to location and character to character. This might not be a style for everyone, but it kept us interested and kept us wanting to know more.

Kevin Bacon plays his role fantastically as the leader of the notorious Hellfire Club (a group of mutants who want to take over the world). But the star of the show for us was certainly James McAvoy as a young Professor X. McAvoy used his usual charm and wit to showcase who the young Charles was a bit of a boy wonder. Gaining his professorship from Oxford University all the while using his intellect as a rouse to get women. Played to perfection, Professor X and James McAvoy truly stole the show.

The entire cast put in a great performance and must be congratulated, backed up by a strong script and meaningful characters who seem to gain an affinity with the audience. You care about these characters, want to know them, want them to 'win!' so to speak. Unlike with the previous X-Men movies which lacked a certain level of depth, 'First Class' gives everything. Humour, drama, action, love, heroes, villains and a nice ending to leave us wanting more!

There are clear moral issues as with any movie like this and as has been bounced around a lot in reviews of this movie recently, you can draw similarities between the characters of Prof. X & Magneto and Dr. Martin Luther King & Malcolm X. Both essentially on the same side but have completely different ways of achieving their goals! But this morality pulls you deeper into the movie and the characters and will leave you debating for hours after... Which side would you choose?

All in all, great movie! And we can't wait for the next instalment. Bring on X-Men: First Class 2 (? X-Men: Second Class?)
