David has never been a boy to fit in the crowd or be "one of the boys". Yet his works evoke both a social and spiritual emotion that is universal.
David Hochbaum's art is the construction of paintings built on photographs and images that are not only the contemplation of human behavior, but also a reaction to history, astronomy, sex, and iconoclastic symbols. While maintaining dialogue with his own behavior, each picture produces a vision from his private world bound to elements and symbols.

David Hochbaum’s 怪談集"KAIDAN ShU"
KAIDAN SHU; Tales of mist and wind" at
Strychnin Gallery this June 2011 in Berlin.
I wanted to post his paintings and share his artwork in my blog, and I also have a personal attachment. I collaborated with him as a Japanese brush calligrapher in his obake project that he spent over a year producing.
It is teeming with ghosts, spirits and demons. All the myths, obake, and horror I have loved for so long. He resided in Japan for a while and worked with our beautiful Japanese girl friends who weren't afraid of being models, depicted as a scary fricken ghosts that might make viewers feel haunted. These ladies almost really broke their legs.
His world is absolutely magnificent and divine. I believe that this series will be maintained and talked about over the centuries. Timing wise, they were shown a little after the Tohoku earthquake Tsunami disaster in Japan 2011. And he charitied a fundraiser for the victims in Japan.

Lady Burns Friends House Down Over Facebook Rejection
Yo, This Bitch Is Crazy!
Authorities in Iowa say a 30-year-old woman attempted to burn down a couple’s house last week in retaliation for being unfriended in Facebook. Jennifer Christine Harris, of Des Moines, is being held in Polk County Prison on $100,000 bond after she allegedly set fire to Jim and Nikki Rasmussen‘s garage, forcing the couple to flee their home in the middle of the night, the Des Moines Register reports.
The siding on the house melted and the garage roof collapsed, according to reports. The Rasmussens only managed to escape the blaze after a loud booming sound woke them up. “It was ablaze at 1 a.m. It was just totally engulfed,” neighbor Dominic Formaro told ABC News.
Police say that investigations show Harris’ motive was connected to an argument she and Nikki had over Facebook. “The two are no longer friends due to a dispute over Facebook,” Jim Rasmussen told officials with the Des Moines Police Department. “According to Nikki, Jen is angry with her because she ended their friendship on Facebook.”
According to Detective Jack Kamerick, the dispute had much to do with a Facebook event the former-best friends were planning. “Jen asked Nikki to create an event on Facebook for a party. Nikki did that,” Kamerick told the Register. “As the date for the party approached there were a lot of ‘declines,’ on Facebook. It was looking like the party might be a bust. The dispute apparently blossomed.”
The tension between Harris and Nikki apparently became so great that when police asked the Rasmussens who might have wished to harm them, the couple immediately pointed the finger at their former friend.
Police charged Jennifer Harris with first degree arson.

INTERVIEW WITH HAYLEY WARNHAM
- How did you first get into illustration?
-
I've always been a creative person and have been drawing since I was a kid, so I decided to nurture my artistic side and recently gained my degree in Visual Communication where I specialised in Illustration. I chose Visual Communication because after finishing school I was still unsure of what direction I wanted to head, but it gave me the opportunity to work in Photography, Graphic Design and Digital Media before I finally decided Illustration was for me.
- How would you best describe your style of illustration?

It's a playful mix of Collage, Drawing and everything in-between. My work could be considered quite conceptual as I believe less is more and it's always a little rough around the edges. When there's too much going on it all becomes a bit over-complicated and unnecessary - although knowing when to stop is the tough part.
- Please take us through your design process, where do you start?
-
I usually take some time to think up an initial idea then work from there. I'm a real perfectionist, so working with Collage is perfect for me as it allows the freedom to experiment with positioning and layout of imagery without having to commit to a final composition straight away. Once I'm happy with the layout, I fix everything down and build it up from there.
- What tools do you use for your work?

I'm often found wielding a pair of scissors and a Pritt-Stick, whilst being surrounded by a mountain of Magazines, Newspapers and Clippings. I'm also never far from a sharp pencil and a paintbrush.
- When illustrating, do you sometimes get blocked for ideas? If so, how do you overcome that?

I think it's normal for many creatives to get blocked for ideas. Sometimes they just arrive instantly, but other times it just takes a while for them to develop. When I feel lost I tend to step away from the work and explore all kinds of interesting blogs and sites online, they're great for inspiration as well as leading you onto an endless path of other odd sites.
