The Course Report

April 30th - Nidom - The longest round of golf in the world - ever!

Sato Akira san from the Kutchan driving range had a competition to celebrate his hole in one at Lake Toya Hills last season. As he was insured, he was able to spend up to onemillion yen on comps, goodies and much more. we started at 1030 but actually did not finish until 7pm! Very busyt on the course. Frustration all round but not bad scores.

Nidom classic is made up of Ashiri, Nisupa, Pirika and is one of the obvious box tickers for people visiting Hokkaido to golf. Worth a visit if you have not been but plenty of better value experiences on the island.

May 1st at Niseko Golf Course.

Two groups with Ben once again taking the money despite some questionable scoring on the first after he forgot his putter on the practice green..

Course in good condition but greens especially good for this time of year.

Next stop...Off to Korea for the Maekyung Open and SK Telecom Open on the Oneasia Tour caddying for AT.

From Niseko Village

THE SUGR AND SPICE BAND

Posted | Views: 1,242

THE SUGAR AND SPICE BAND

The Sugar and Spice band is an incredible Motown and disco band with a tremendous
amount of soul.  The band is compiled of
ten phenomenally talented artists and musicians from around Long Island.  Each
member has a story to tell and a history with music from Gladys Knight to Little
Buster. The band has an unbelievable song list which includes a range of
melodies. “You Can’t Hurry Love, “Le freak”, “Band of Gold” and” Chain of Fools”
are just a few of the numerous songs they perform. This band gets the crowds
singing, and on the floor dancing from the minute that first melody is heard.

Joyce Kendrick, the manager and lead vocalist, is a Brooklyn
criminal defense attorney by day and a well known singer by night. Joyce comes
from a very talented family. Her mother sang with a famous gospel group, and her
uncle sings with and produces Dorothy Norwood. Joyce was inspired as a youngster
by Diana Ross. During college she toured with the Eastern Arizona Repertory Theatre Company for two years.
She has performed in various musicals. One year, uring a summer break from school, she
flew to New York for a vacation. Little did Joyce know she was going to meet her husband Darryl
Kendrick and fall in love. Joyce followed her heart and relocated to Long
Island, where she finished her law degree .Her husband  Darryl has been playing saxophone since the
age of 10 and has performed in several bands including Love, Peace and Joy,
Nemesis, and New Life Soul. They sang together with New Life Soul for about 5
years. A few years back, Darryl decided to start his own band, introduced Joyce
to a few musicians, and before they knew it, The Sugar and Spice band was
formed.

When asked how all the members came together, Joyce stated, “It was sort of faith. In the
beginning, the original drummer, saxophone and trumpet player from the previous
band came with us on our new venture. The drummer met a keyboard player, who had
joined the band, but eventually had to leave the band. That was when Roast beef
Joe contacted us to join the group. When our drummer left, Tommy Randano, who
played with Gladys Knight, joined the group as the drummer.” The Sugar and Spice
Band have been together for 1.5 years. They practice weekly at Jamhouse Studios
in Lindenhurst New York.
Each member has an astounding talent worth sharing:

Michael Carpenter, the tenor saxophonist,
has been playing the saxophone for more than 25 years. He holds a degree in
music from Berklee College of Music. Currently Michael is a band director and a
teacher atWestburyHigh School.

Rich Gordon who plays the Trumpet, Flugelhorn and Harmonica, has played for over 40 years. He has played
with several bands including New Life Soul and Randy and the Rainbows- with whom
he continues to perform.

"Roast Beef Joe" Samuels is the keyboard player. He has played with
the legendary Little Buster.

Timothy Maye, who plays the bass
guitar, has performed for over 20 years. His talent will have you up and jumping
the entire evening.

Joey Donato plays the guitar
and vocals. “He has been playing guitar by the age of 13.  By 15, he was
studying with Con Estone and later the legendary, late great Carmen Mastren.
After a tour of military duty and before joining The Royal Teens, (Short
Shorts), Joey resumed his playing experience by providing the guitar background
for acts such as The Belmonts and later Gary US Bonds and the Paragons.”

Tommy Rendano plays the drums “.He holds a degree in Instrumental Performance and
Music Education from Berklee College of Music and a degree in Music Education
from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. For over five years, Tommy performed in Las Vegas
showroom house orchestras at the MGM Grand, Caesars Palace, Aladdin & Tropicana Hotels. He played
behind top showroom headliners including Gladys Knight, Marilyn McCoo and Billy
Davis Jr., Lola Falana, Dionne Warwick, Wayne Newton, Glen Campbell, Doc
Serinson, Paul Williams, Bernadette Peters and many others.  He spent ten years
in New York as a personal drummer for the Holidays and Cathy Jean and the Roomates. Serving as House
drummer for the Cavalier Lounge he played for oldies groups the Angels &
Lenny Welch. “

Sheryl Myles is one of the background vocalists. She is the choir director for her church
choir and is very skilled at perfecting harmonies.

Stephanie Ghulson is another background vocalist. Stephanie also has gained her singing experience
while growing up in the church. Together these woman will bring tears to your eyes as they reproduce
the oldies in a way never heard before.

The Sugar and Spice
Band can be seen all over Long Island. They recently played at The Resorts World Casino New York City Aqueduct.
They played at Old Westbury College for the Jazz under the Stars. You can find them at The Lizard Lounge,
The High Note, and numerous venues From Queens to the Hamptons. They plan on coming up with new videos
and a new demo this year.

As far as the family genes spreading, Darryl and Joyce’s daughter Jazmine won the 2004 LI Idol in her
school for her wonderful singing abilities. She also made the final cuts for
Christina Aguilera’s show, “The Voice”.  Their son Vernell is a 27 year old music video productions artist.

KEEP THE LIGHT RECORDS

The sounds of true artist. It's imperative to keep the process of making music as a trust. The waves

of autotuned noise does nothing but disturb the  original tempo on which we were created to flow upon. I'm an advocate of all inclusive non-exclusive

artist putting some new colors on the canvas. The corporate dispensery of retail, refied sounds has got to go. Our label is our vehicle. Come join us.

1.When did you take your 1st portfolio picture? What made you say this was your calling?
*11th grade. My high school had its 1st Annual Fashion show and my work was included on the flyer as promo.  I knew this was my calling once I realized I [created] images of memories that last a lifetime.

2.How do you choose your scenes? *Honestly, I usually go with my first instinct. As soon as a [blueprint] is constructed, I try my hardest to choose locations that are beneficial in displaying my aesthetic to the world.

3.What do you expect from your work? (Present/Future)
*Presently, just to be noticed.

*In the future I'd expect that my drive and creative mind can put me in a position as to where I'd be shooting front covers for any major high fashion magazine or billboards for high fashion stores.

4.What mainstream magazine do you think best suits your style?
*Im sure I may come off as JUST a High Fashion Photographer, but I believe my style is quite eclectic. I can't narrow it down to 1, but i'll throw a couple out there; Vogue, Elle, Complex, OUT, Nylon and Billboard.

5. Place you wish you could shoot?
Italy

A butterfly floats on the breeze of a sun lit day. As I feel this reality gently fade awayRiding on a thought to see where it's from. Gliding through a memory of a time yet to come. Smoke paints the air. Swirling images through my mind. Like a whirlpool spin beginning to unwind. And I stand at the edge cautiously awaiting. As time slips by. Carefully navigating by the stars in the sky and I sit and I think to myself. And on the horizon the sun light begins to climb. And it seems like it's been so long since he shined. But I'm sure it was only yesterday. A cold chill of fear cut through me. I felt my heart contract. To my mind I brought the image of light, and I expanded it out. My fear was just a shadow. And then a voice spoke in my head. And she said dark is not the opposite of light, it's the absence of light. And I thought to myself, she knows what she's talking about. And for a moment I knew what it was all about.

Ron English: Godfather of Postgraffism

Posted | Views: 11,552

Ron English is a contemporary artist that’s been blending classic brands and imagery along with current pop-culture since the early 80's. He has been a heavy player in the street art scene and even influenced a younger generation of artists considered Postgraffists. His guerrilla semiotics approach intended to expose apparently questionable political assumptions behind commercial culture in a colorful way grabs the attention of viewers. English uses common tactics including re-figuring logos, fashion statements, and product images as a means to challenge the idea of "what's cool" along with assumptions about the personal freedoms of consumption.

"You talkin' to me?"

The Course Report April 29th- Niseko Golf Course Pre -Open.....

Wanted!

For Crimes against handicaps!

Great day had by all. Two groups. Greens in great condition considering the snow this year and as usual, 95% took the cash. Net 70 wins the day so Ben H kept the hat until next time.

All played of the regular tees and the course condition was suprisingly good. Still recommend playing preferred lies to give the fairways a chance to grow in.

Niseko Golf Course was designed by Arnold Palmer and he was on his game when he designed this course. Well worth a visit....

Best Deal Man Has Ever Made

Dogs have given us their absolute all.  We are the center of their universe.  We are the focus of their love and faith and trust.  They serve us in return for scraps.  It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.
