Blown Away by Social Media

.

I am someone that spends much of my day plugged in online. Regardless of the countless hours I spend on social media each week, I am constantly amazed by the capacity of social media to turn brands into exciting human entities. For this reason,

I believe that marketing and advertising are the most exciting industries to work in today. The role of advertisers is not only to develop creative new ideas, but also to discover new media in which to communicate these ideas. I want to study Creative Advertising to learn how to transform my artistic abilities and new ideas into tangible campaigns. At Vanderbilt, I am studying Communication, Corporate Strategy, and Studio Art. I believe that this course, more so than any others, combines my skills in each of the three disciplines I have chosen to pursue.

This summer, I plan to build on my existing experience with marketing and advertising. I am interning at Liquid Thread, a digital media division of Starcom Mediavest. This department develops “content that propels brands across screens and between people.” I will come away from this summer with knowledge regarding the most cutting edge ways to reach consumers and an opportunity to share these methods with classmates in the Creative Advertising course.

Campaigns that excite me:

A really popular TV campaign that has gone viral here in Denmark. Probably not something they could play on TV in the U.S. …

I love that this idea is so simple and worked so well. I guess everyone loves showing people pictures of their baby.
