Soon after the success of The X-Files we began to see an alarming rate of television shows with the word "files" in them.

You can't watch shows like Fringe, Bones, Supernatural, and even Roswell without thinking of The X-Files.
The X-Files was the first television show to have it's entire season on DVD. As a sort of experiment to see if it would sell. Which eventually open the gates for every series on televison to be available on DVD.
The Series started on Sept. 10, 1993, declaring �The truth is out there.� Entertainment Weekly replied, �We know — this show's a goner.�
