 Women in the Arts

Letter from the CEO of Women in the Arts Miami.

Welcome to the 2013 Women in the Arts achievement awards! It’s amazing how much the organization has grown in such little time, and I am so happy to see how much talent there really is in Florida- we have amazing actors, directors, filmmakers, screenwriters, radio personanalities, producers, artists, photographers, hair sylists, make up artsts, fashion designers and entrepreneurs that make Miami what it truly is. I always say that if women could unite and work together hand-in-hand to help each other, perhaps we could make a stronger social impact in our community. I truly believe that us women are unique in our own special way, and we truly do have the power to make a world of a difference, so lets try to bring ourselves closer and lets embrace being women!

Yet as strong as we are as a community, let us not forget the great help given to us by our “constituent counterparts.”  Women in the Arts is honored to be able to recognize not just amazing women, but some of the most talented men that have achieved in and contributed to our community.  Through their helping hand, we have been able to reach farther than thought possible by working together to achieve our mutual successes.

What drives us more than just the premises of personal success, and what was truly my motivation for wanting to start Women in the Arts was the fact that there are not many organizations that help support, motivate and recognize our local talent. It is for this reason that that I love the idea of the Latin and American markets merging together to create opportunity in our community, which is why you have been selected to be a part of this magnificent and special moment where these two worlds merge in one room.  So lets stand up and help transform Miami into the next hub of talent- the next Hollywood!

To our success,

 Diana Laura

Introduction to WITA's Sponsors! Thank you for your support!

Meet William Kennedy:

William H. Kennedy was born in Providence, Rhode Island, but moved to South Florida with his family when he was only three years old.  He has lived in Broward County since the age of three, so he understands the needs of South Florida.  Before becoming a Partner, Mr. Kennedy was employed with the Law Offices of Robert DiStefano (www.distefanolaw.com) since 1988, and while employed, achieved his Jiris Doctor Degree from Saint Thomas University School of Law.  Over the years Mr. Kennedy has gained knowledge and legal experience of handling all types of personal injury and wrongful death cases, PIP litigation, contractual issues, as well as trial experience.

Mr. Kennedy is a firm believer in avoiding the cost, delay, and acrimony of litigation. Even if you win, he understands going to court can be an expensive and emotionally draining experience. As a result, he studies alternatives to the traditional litigation process that have been growing in popularity around the country. These alternatives, known collectively as alternative dispute resolution (ADR), can be used to resolve all types of disputes, from simple disagreements to complex, multi-party conflicts.  Simply stated, ADR is the process of resolving disputes without using the court system. The most widely used methods are mediation (where a neutral third person helps facilitate an agreement between the parties) and arbitration (where a neutral third person hears both sides of a dispute, then issues a decision).

Mr. Kennedy has been a loyal WITA Sponsor for over 3 years.

Walter Chacon

His Love and devotion for animals has won him a Humanitarian Award at WITA's 2013 Achievement Awards. Walter Chacon goes to the Animal Shelters in South Florida and he takes pictures of the pets so they can be posted all over the Social Media and find potential homes for these poor babies.

Two months ago i saw on Facebok the picture of a Beautiful cat taken by Walter. Her name is Delilah, she had been in the shelter for a month and a half and was soon going to be euthanized. I tried to find a home for her and my friend in Los Angeles said she wanted to adopt her so i fostered Delilah and i saw the pain she had in her eyes, i could tell she has been abused. Her pain made me get so attached to her that she became the third cat member of my family and obviously i did not take her to LA with my friend. Now, Delilah is happy and so friendly! No more pain!  We are so proud of you Walter and Thank you so much for all you do.

Here is a short Biography of Walter and his Pets Photography Services

Walter A. Chacon is a photographer and owner of PawPrints, Miami. He specializes in pet portraits serving all of South Florida. Walter has over 20 years of experience in the fine art/commercial art fields. Photography has always been a passion and combined with the love of animals has become a perfect synergy.

Since September of 2011, Walter has been volunteering his time and talents 3 days a week, at the Miami-Dade Animal Services shelter. He presented the idea of taking professional portraits of strays, abandoned and abused animals as a way of giving these "orphans" a better chance of being adopted into a new family. Since then, Walter has taken over 2,000 professional portraits of dogs and cats with many success stories. Making a difference is all that counts.

Walter also is Kiki Hamann Couture dog designer's official photographer.

Great Job and we expect to see more of the brilliant and creative Director Jonathan Vinazza who is also nominated @ Wita 2013 for Best Director, Best Screenwriter, Best Producer, Best Filmmaker and Best Short Film.

Born and raised in south florida Christine Curran has always been a rising entertainer. She started as a musician and dancer in high school to then become a full time model and actress. Her career began as a hobby. While going to college she would do photo shoots during her spare time. Surprisingly it really took off when the economy took a hit and so did her full time commission job. This was her chance to chase her dreams. With a degree in marketing and advertising Christine got right to work networking and applying for gigs in South Florida. Since then she has made quite a name for herself. From hosting jobs for big names like Playboy TV to international print ads for Sex Drive Energy Drink. She appeared as the cover girl for Harley Davidson’s statewide print ad in Bikes and Beauties Magazine and was a cover girl for the LA Express in California. You may have seen her on Spike TV or Comedy Central appearing as the lead on a regional commercial for Broward Bar Hunter. She was the official spokes model for La Di Da Lingerie 2009-2010, a ring girl for Don King’s Sizzling Summer Match and has appeared in a music video for Rick Ross. She has been selected as the print model for multiple clothing catalogs and featured on the clothing tags in many boutiques throughout the Florida Keys. Her other achievements include a horror film, Beware, with costar Victor Gonzalez and a commercial for Pepper’s Burrito Grill in South Beach. She is currently a host for VIP TV on local ABC.

However this isn’t all Christine does. After success in the world of modeling and acting, she ventured off into the other side of entertainment…night clubs and events. This is where Ft Liquordale Entertainment and the Jello Shot Girlz were born. Her entertainment company is one of the most popular ones in south florida and has grown tremendously in 4 yrs.

The Beautiful Actress/Comedian Aniela McGuinness is taking over Miami and ready for Stardom in Hollywood. Enjoy this hilarious short she just released. If you want to know more about Aniela McGuiness please got to www.anielaMcGuiness.com

Girly Stuff!

Contour the Face

Why Contour? Contouring adds definition, structure, and dimension. Some women were born with defined facial features but for the rest of us we should grab a concealer palette and a brush! ;) It’s actually really easy and with a little practice you will become better and more confident in your application process. After reading many blogs and watching lots of tutorials I stumbled across a concealer palette by Sonia Kashuk name hidden agenda-07 which contains two concealer shades, one neutralizer, and one translucent powder. The best part is its at Target for $11…Score! You can apply your concealer with a concealer brush or your ring finger by tapping the face to blend it into skin. First apply your foundation of choice and blend outwards to prevent lines. Next, contour the cheekbones and jaw line with the darker concealer and with the lighter concealer highlight under the eyes, bridge of nose, eyebrow bone, and chin and seal it with your translucent powder. I love this quad because it has everything in ONE! Complete your look by finishing with an all over face powder, blush, bronzer, lips and eyes. I attached a photo of myself after going through the steps above and pictures of Kim K with guidelines on her face to help you see where to apply. Your completed look should be well blended and seamless. Your highlights should play together to create depth and dimension!

Meet our beauty contributor Tamara Coleman!

“ You don’t take a photograph, you make it"
.An Inspirational Q & I Interview with Published Photographer & Photographer of the year nominee  Andrew King from Parkland FL.

Andrew King was born and raised by a free-spirited hippie, a logical engineer, a militant master of the English language, and a bossy sister.

"I'm a lover of cameras, travel, culture, pho, classic pinups, classic motorcycles, swing & blues music, unsweetened-iced-tea

and all type of expressions." Continuing, "I am a teacher, competitor, and fanatic of lindy hop..." Andrew King has been in the industry for over 15 years.

1-Did your early photographic goals include earning a living from photography, or did it start as a way to express yourself creatively?

Photography was always a hobby as I was originally a 3D Animator/Graphics designer.. that moved over to Video Production.. then 6 months
ago quit it all and settled into still photography only. They are all related and I pull from each skill set I  have to create a final product. My
graphic skills helped in photo post production, video production skills helped with interaction and directing models.

2- Which one item of equipment would you say is the most important to you?
My brain.  :)  We all know that photo gear are just tools to accomplish a final product.  I believe a skilled artist should be able to use multiple
mediums. Granted certain tools make it easier than others… but we are in an age where multiple skill sets are invaluable.

3- How do you describe your photographic style?
I'd like to say adaptable.  When I'm shooting for myself and not a commissioned work, I don't want to pigeonhole a style; It's really symbiotic to
mood, the model's contributions, environment, etc.

4-What kind of equipment do you use?

I've got it all.  From "toy" cameras to medium format- I'll use it all.

5-Who are your influences?
Gosh, I literally am influenced every day!  There are so many great photographers out there now a days that can get their work on the internet.
I have so many influences by genres, but if my arm were twisted to name a name... 5 words… British fashion photographer John French!
He was just pure classic, clean, inventive, his shooting was flawless and killer… and I'm jealous of that era of shooters!
6-What projects are you currently working on?

Right now I've started a project working title called White- It's my own exploration of shooting over exposed images.

7-What kind of impression do you hope to leave upon other’s who see your photographs?

Open up your world to a variety of influences and expand your horizons!

8-Are there any photographers who you admire? If so, who are they?

The only photographers I admire are the ones that get inspired and chase that inspiration to its completion, only to head to the next one!

9-Will you ever feel like your work is completed?

HAHAHA…….umm... nope!

10-Define your photography in one sentence.
Improvisational photography….

Makeup tip:
The correct foundation is crucial  for any face. Paying close attention to your undertones is a great help. When purchasing a foundation, bring along a buddy that will be honest about how you look and if it matches your complexion. when shopping for the perfect foundation, Dont forget,  before you buy, excuse yourself, take a mirror and go outside and look at yourself once the makeup has been applied. Then  and only then will know if you have found the perfect match! For mature skin, stay away from matt foundation, always select a foundation with moisture, this will insure your skin has a supple glow and will illuminate the skin and give a youthful appearance.
