Melon Bowls

These melon shaped, textured bowls make a good breakfast dish, except you don't actually eat them. You can still eat your crappy sugar coated cereal and feel remotely good about yourself.

Good morning,

Explosive Storm Cloud in Canada

Posted | Views: 17,355

A storm cloud threatens to develop into a full blown tornado behind a cluster of family homes. Pat Kavanagh took this shot of an explosive storm from the roof of his house in Taber, Canada, last month. Expecting the sunny weather to take a turn for the worse he watched intently as the billows started spinning into a furious funnel. He says: He said: "Our area of the country seldom sees tornadoes so this was a rare sight indeed and with the rainbow underneath it, made it even more special to see." This picture was created by stitching together multiple photographs in a vertical panorama.

Although he currently lives and works in Chicago, Illinois, his time spent in Watts, Los Angeles, California where he observed the Black Power and Civil Rights movements had a significant impact on his paintings). Strongly influenced by his experiences as a young man, he developed a signature style during his early years as an artist that involved the use of extremely dark, essentially black figures. These images represent his perspective of African Americans with separate and distinct inner and outer appearances. At the same time, they confront racial stereotypes within contemporary American society. This common theme appeared continuously in his work throughout the subsequent decades, especially in the 1980's and 1990's.

While earning his BFA from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, he worked under the notable Charles White and Arnold Mesches. At Otis, he developed his realist style after experimenting with large-scale drawings and collage, choosing instead to “mak[e] a meaningful picture that did not have a representational image or a specific story to tell,” over abstraction. Thus, Marshall still retains the political content so important to the Civil Rights Movement while painting a narrative through mural-sized pieces.

Win People to Your Way of Thinking

Win people

to your way

of thinking

  1. The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.
  2. Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say, "You're wrong."
  3. If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
  4. Begin in a friendly way.
  5. Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately.
  6. Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.
  7. Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
  8. Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.
  9. Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.
  10. Appeal to the nobler motives.
  11. Dramatize your ideas.
  12. Throw down a challenge.

Gediminas siaulys: works and statement

My art is something, that comes out of the deep within. I believe, that it springs from hidden tunnels of my emotional experience, where all things ever felt starting with my childhood reside. When I think about new piece everything I want to express
is the sense that visits me. This sense comes with particular character, mood, color and texture. Entirely new worlds start to appear with it’s fauna and flora. My aim is to catch and fulfil them.

Recently I’m obsessed with bees, liquids, woods and masks. My main inspiration is nature, fairytales and Lithuanian culture heritage.

"I don’t think I’m the typical 'glamour' model as I also love to shoot for high fashion/ editorial photography as well. When it comes to modeling I am hard working, determined and extremely versatile. As a person I may come across a bit shy to start off with but I'm actually very down-to-earth, laid back and bubbly."

Zombie Head Bowling Balls

Posted | Views: 17,797

Created as a collaboration between Jung von Matt/Elbe and spraygun artist Oliver Paass to advertise Germany’s 13th Street, a horror/sci-fi channel. I look forward to a post-apocalyptic future where zombie-head bowling is a nationally recognized sport, perhaps the one that brings our undead war-ravaged society back together (fingers crossed! please dont eat them…)

Balls

Now you can bowl with someones head. These are really funny. The holes of the ball are either the heads mouth or eyes. Sick!

Physician, Heal Thyself

Physician, Heal Thyself

~Luke 4:23

Many of us can be quick to judge others, believing we know what is right for them and how to solve other people's issues.

While it may come from a place of good intention to want to solve the problems of other people, it also comes from ignorance and most of all

"Physician, Heal Thyself" can be interpreted to mean that rather than looking for solutions to the problems of others, we can instead turn inward and work to better ourselves.

FEAR

Have you ever heard someone say "when you judge others, you judge yourself?"  If something about someone else makes you uncomfortable, why not take a few moments to see what within yourself is being challenged.

Finding our own Balance within Ourselves will help us to be less judgmental because we are more comfortable being who we are.  So go ahead.  Physician, Heal Thyself.

Small Room Layouts

Posted | Views: 2,584

When a reader needed help finding small-scale furniture for her new living/sitting room I asked for her to send me dimensions of the room so I could really grasp the problem.  We emailed back and forth and I was able to draw up a plan based off of three photos and confirmation of six or seven dimensions.  The room was definitely a challenge.  First off there is no separation of space between the tiled mud room and the living room.  And secondly the room is a through space to get to the staircase and/or to the outside patio.  I did two schemes with different color palettes but each carry out the same idea.  In both I used a settee or a love seat which can seat up to two people.  French and Dutch reproduction pieces are the best in small scales.  In addition I found a slender coffee table that in one scheme is glass to open the space up, and in the other they are two smaller tables that can be moved around when having company for extra seating.  I approached the challenge with dividing the room with either a screen or drapery.  You could also use a French étagère, which is essentially an open framed bookcase.
