Merging into the MLB in 2010, he has already made a name for himself. Ben Revere a former Minnesota Twin, now playing for the Philadelphia Phillies is one of the players who is well known for making incredible catches. He leaves people asking “Does he have a baseball magnet in his hand?”. Fielding isn’t his only strong suit either, the young 26 year old athlete, has the highest count for stolen bases in a single season, and hits a .291 batting average. He’s also capable of getting on base from bunting, which isn’t easy to do, seeing as I am a former baseball player. In the summer of 2010, his first official year, he made a catch that is still being talked about. In a game against the Baltimore Oriels in the bottom of the 7th inning is when the young star made his first spark. MLB slugger Vladimir Guerrero belted a ball across Target Field, as the ball went soaring into the stands, Revere starting running. It was that moment when Ben Revere decided to climb the wall of Target Field and catch the ball in his glove, leaving the packed stadium in a mixture of awe and cheers. During that same year Minnesota fans also got to see the revolution of the term “Rev Run”, after seeing Ben do a full somersault while rounding second base and running to third. Making it to third base it was still a classic moment watching your favorite player lose his balance and barrel roll onto third base. The crowd was in laughter, the team was in shock, and coach Ron Gardenhire had the look of relief and irritation written all over his face, and Ben had a smile from ear to ear on his face as he looked up at his Dad and Brother who were sitting in the front row. Holding many records for a single team, he also holds a record for the MLB in general. He set the record for having 1,410 career at bats without hitting a single homerun. He did hit an out of the park homerun until the Summer of 2014, and an In the Park homerun back in 2012. Critics can say that’s embarrassing, but to Ben Revere, a records a record, and that one wont be broken for a very long time. While playing for the Minnesota Twins, Ben got to play alongside some really great players; Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Jim Thome, and Denard Span. It has been said by numerous sources that Ben brought positive energy to the team and enjoyed playing for the Minnesota twins a lot, but that was until the Winter of 2012 when he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Vance Worley. The Twins had this absurd vision that First round draft pick Aaron Hicks was going to be a replacement for Revere, how wrong they were, how terribly wrong they were.

MVP In the MLB there are uncountable magnificent players. Each year the MLB picks one person from each League that they think stuck out the most and that person is labeled the MVP or Most Valuable Player of that League (National League and American League). The MVP is also determined through fan feedback as well as coach nominations. Honorable Mentions Corey Kluber is a righty pitcher who broke out with 18 wins, a 2.44 ERA and 269 strike outs becoming the Tribes (Indians) first CY Young winner since 2008. (Hailey) Another honorable mention would be Clayton Kershaw who was the first National League pitcher since Bob Gibson in 1968 to win the Cy Young and MVP in the same season, (MVP for National League). Also The Dodgers' ace Clayton Kershaw was a unanimous winner after going 21-3 with a career-best 1.77 ERA. Kershaw was awarded the MVP award for the National League. (Mortson) American League MVP The man who was awarded 2014 American League MVP was non other than Mike Trout. It was special because, Mike Trout claimed his first MVP Award in unanimous fashion after finishing second to Miguel Cabrera each of the past two seasons. This is very interesting/impressive because this is only Mike Trout’s third year in the MLB. Manager of the year Managers are a big part of the game as well and many of them deserve awards for what the do. There are Two Managers, first is Buck Showalter, Having won in 1994 and 2004, Showalter completed the trilogy by anchoring the O's to a division title. The other is a Rookie Manger and that is Matt Williams, In his first season as a manager, Williams propelled the Nationals to 96 victories and the National League East crown. 
(Johnson) Defensive Player of the year The Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Awards are determined by a formula that balances scouting information, sabermetric analysis and basic fielding stats. The MVP for this category is first baseman Adrian Gonzalez for the Dodgers. Another honorable mention is Russell Martin for the Pirates. (Hills) Players Choice awards Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw took center stage at the unveiling of the Players Choice Awards, claiming Player of the Year, Marvin Miller Man of the Year and NL Outstanding Pitcher. The number one player of the choice awards is again Mike Trout for the Los Angeles Angels. Outstanding DH Award Victor Martinez became the first Tiger to win the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award since Rusty Staub in 1978. Martinez led the Major Leagues with a .974 OPS, and topped the American League with a .409 on base percentage. Martinez spent much of the year with his homerun and strikeout totals in a neck and neck battle. He couldn't keep the strikeout total lower by the end, but he became the first hitter since Barry Bonds in 2004 to hit 30 or more home runs with 42 or fewer strikeouts in the same season. (Riley) There are many awards in the MLB but the top known awards were put into this Article. Players who are awarded take pride in the accomplishment and it only gives them a reason to work harder the following season. Mike Trout has 4 Awards this year which is outstanding considering this is only his 3rd year. Lets just say I won’t be surprised if he shows up on the front cover of the next MLB video game.

Phil Hughes is already a good pitcher but he can be great. He needs to learn another pitch so he’s not so predictable. The outfield just needs the talent back. We had a huge ovation for Aaron Hicks who was supposed to be “the next big thing”, well he’s back in the Minor League now because he was awful. In my head I was starting to believe that he was aligned with the devil. Not a fan. We cant give up faith, we just have to be patient with our rising stars and hope they turn things around. Will 2K15 Be Our Year? Is 2015, going to be the infamous comeback that everyone’s waiting for? With a new coach who is supposed to be turning things around and our talent on a new training program, many think that this can be a turn around year. People aren’t expecting a World Series run necessarily, but would like to see a Winning record and a possible shot at the play offs. The Next Big Thing There’s a man who is expected to come up to the big leagues next year and he goes by the name of Byron Buxton. He’s an outfielder who is titled “The Next Big Thing” and is supposed to be able to cover any outfield position with any problem. I’ve personally seen him play on TV and I must admit he’s impressive, and quick, but he’s also just coming off an injury, which is a scare to many people. With the enormous amount of support this young player has I feel like he’s going to do great. He is the type of guy to take advantage, use his fans as motivation and do great. He’s going to help the team, and I hope he can bring us success. Now We Wait Now that the MLB is nearly in its off-season it’s time for resting injuries and a lot of practice. With Millions anxiously waiting we can only prepare ourselves to hopefully have a great 2015, Baseball Season.
