Game addiction hospitalizes teens
Some people love games. Some people dont like games. And some people are addicted. There is this new game that you can use a headset. It might be fun but not all the time. There is this virus spreading through the headset. It is putting peoples lives at risk. Some people have died earlier through the month since this game has been out due to the virus. There is no way to cure the addiction as of right now. You shouldnt buy this game or use this headset until we figure out how to fix this, find a cure, or just get rid of this virus.
Movie review
I loved the movie. this was a real action with a lot of suspence. The actor choice was perfect. Some parts i dont even know how they shot it looked so real. My mind was blown by how good they shot this film with real life props. Some of the time during the movie i thought i was really sam trying to dodge the plane from hitting us inside the hotel. Out of the whole movie that was my favorite part and i would buy this on DVD just to watch it again. It was one of my favorite all time movies. I give it a 10/10.

Brian Jack Movie Review

"Brain Jack" was a thrilling movie with all the intellegence of a wise real life hacker and the knowledge needed to make to movie come to life. The actors were excellent choices for their rolls but only few went out of their comfort zones to act as the character. Overall "Brian Jack" was an exhilarating movie about the science of hacking, technology, and the consequences.

Sandy scared the bear off and limped into the house with Macy in front of her. "It was scary but Sandy was there to save me." said Macy. Sandy had suffered a broken bone in her leg and other minor injuries. The doctor told the parents that without Sandy, Macy could have suffered major injury or even death. The towns people tell us that Sandy is a hero but Macy says she was just being a dog.

So I need your help, me and my best friend were outside watching the planes fly by. I didnt really think about it it just felt right so i leaned in and kissed him. I didn't think about what would happen after  it until the next day. I'm worried its going to be awkward or even worse in going to lose him for good. The other day we were in the car and he tried to bring it up, I told him it was none thing and not to worry about it.  I'm just worried what if he has feelings about me and I don't feel the same. What should I do should I not bring it up or tell him what I think about?

The first thing you need to do is stop ignoring the subject and yes I know you might not want to talk about it but trust me you will feel much better if you do. Just be honest with him and if he really cares about you he won't make it awkward or stop being a part of your life. But if he does have feelings for you that are more than just friends tell him how you really feel, just don't lead him on don't lead him to think you like him if you don't. Because if you do your just gonna end up hurting him even if that's not what you intended. And I know it's going to be scary or you think you might lose him, but as long as you are honest you won't. Also it's only awkward if you make it awkward.

Advice Column
Dear Carolyn,
There's this guy who likes me, but i don't like him. Onetime i got caught by some bad guys and i was in very big trouble; I needed help, so he was there to save me, No guy has every done that for me and i think that was very sweet of him; He didn't have to do that for me! Should i let my guard down and give him a chance?(I really think of him differently)

Dear Confused,
If i was you, and a guy did that for me, I'd give him a chance. Like you said, "not one guy has done something like that for me". He might not be that perfect guy, but he seems good enough. You got to let your guard down for that special one and you never know he maybe be that one.

(Answers on page 2)
Dear Carolyn,
My best friend- let's call her H- has been acting strange lately. It feels like she's been avoiding me.
We have one of those relationships where one of us can just show up at the other's house and sleepover.                   Yesterday, the Fourth of July I walked to her house and went up to her room. Every year we go to see the fireworks at the Eastern Promenade. I let myself in because no her parents are hardly ever home and I can never get H to answer the dang door. When I was down the hallway, I heard music playing, which is weird because H doesn't normally listen to her music that loud.
As I got closer, I realized that H wasn't only listening to loud music, she was listening to forbidden music. I opened her bedroom door and once H saw me, she immediately shut it off.
We remained in silence for a few seconds. She said hi and that she didn't hear me come in. I told her that she wouldn't hear me break in blaring music like that. H has been obsessed with music, so her trying something new has happened before. But this time, she acted as though there was something she was hiding. And that ended up being the biggest secret I'd have to keep.
Apparently, a week ago H met this guy at the doctor's office while they both were waiting for their appointments. She told me that they have been talking since; and that he helped her get the music. She found an illegal site.
At this point, I freaked out. I ended up breaking the latch on her
window trying to open it.. H tried to calm me down but her being
close just made me worse. I was, and am, terrified for her safety.
But at the same time I am furious.
H tells me that there's a party she will be going to, where there
will be boys. I tell her it's a bad idea, that she shouldn't go. But
what I get in return is "you shouldn't be so scared all the time".
Then she brings my family into the conversation. H tells me that I
won't end up like a passed family member. To which I reply,
"F you" (but y'know the actual word).

Should I have reacted better to this Carolyn? I just don't want
her to get hurt..
                                                           Thanks,
                                                                          L

He was later                                      identified as Alex Sheathes. ... Okay yes I am but I couldn't get rid of this little part here. :(
A few dim points:
- Although few scenes were left out, many story building scenes
were forgotten
- Not enough extras to make a
realistic town world.

I absolutely loved this film and
would recommend it to even the
most irritable critic.
I have been                                  critiquing and reviewing                                movies for thirty years now.                                 Throughout those years, I have had few favorites. This film, however, has made it into my top three. Lauren Oliver has definitely outdone herself with this book.
This story takes place in a world where love is a disease, Lena (Tiddle) Haloway, our protagonist, grows from a timid, and generally fearful girl into a strong and brave-ish young adult.
Lena meets a boy named Alex and they fall in love, which of course is forbidden in this world. They decide to escape together- which holds drastic events for those who have gotten attached to these characters.
The camera, makeup/dress, and special effect crews prove to be amazing with this film. Vanessa Marano is a perfect Lena. I always read the books (if any) before reviewing a film. With Ashley Benson as Hana, Alex Pettyfer as Alex, & Diane Keaton as Lena's aunt and adoptive parent, this cast couldn't be better.

It’s A Small World After All
Story by: Makayla Ogdahl

IFest. The word gets passed around like a legend. High school students whisper about it to their little siblings as bedtime stories; a day like any other in December, only we get to travel the world.
It’s kind of a different story when you are in the performance though. For spectators, you breeze into the gym as the bell rings and the most difficult task for the next hour is finding your friends and choosing a seat. For performers, like senior Careylyn Mendoza, every outfit must match, every hair must be in place, and every participant must be accounted for. But having to be meticulous doesn’t necessarily make it any less fun, it’s just fun in a different kind of way.
“I’m really glad I did it this year, especially since it’s my last IFest as a senior,” said Mendoza, “I feel like it really brought me closer with people of my own culture.” Mendoza participated in Tinikling, the national dance of the Philippines, with many other Filipino students including Alyssa Faughn and Lauryn Cabanlit. In order for their performance to go off without a hitch, they practiced for two hours twice a week in the five weeks leading up to IFest.
Although there was only one small mistake in their piece (that was hardly noticeable), Mendoza admits that going after the Samoan Haka may have dimmed their spirits a little. “The Haka is so loud, it gets people so pumped, and we came after that like…” Here she demonstrated a flitty hand motion, saying their dance is quiet and less in-your-face.
Another well-planned performance was the African Tribal dance, done by Keyonna Trader and Nisa Seals. When I ambushed Trader as she got off the bus, she said “We made our outfits really cute this year, and we worked really hard on the bends and returns.” Similar to the Tinikling group, only one small mistake was made when Seals momentarily struggled to stand up from her back-bend, and the girls became out-of-synch. Trader remedied this by hesitating for a moment, and the rest of the performance went according to plan.
Many times when we think of IFest, we think merely of stuffing our faces with good food. It is important in these times to remember the performers who are celebrating their cultures, and appreciate their commitment to their routines.

The Hour of Code, The Hour of the Future
Story by: Kerenza Robinson
Coding is the foundation of all technology. All those handheld computers and video games that everyone owns? All started out as a code.
Along with the purpose of bringing awareness of code to our students, Mr. Collins hopes to open up the gender gap in technology. Graduating college, only 12% of women earn a bachelors in computer science. By introducing code to girls before they choose their major, there is a better chance that they will be interested in pursuing the field in college.
In order to acknowledge the basis of technology, Mr.Collins participated in the international Hour of Code program this month that allowed students to use the basics of code to construct a video game. With an excellent turn out, 300 certificates were awarded to all the ROP classes.
Student Patrick Patterson is currently in the process of developing a video game that consists of a world filled of zombies, and the character must finish their quest while trying to survive. Patterson’s game is still nameless, but taking the program has helped in the development and progress of the game.
Let There Be Light
  Story by: Kerenza Robinson

Sooner or later, every bird has to leave the nest. But, seniors know the process is a little more complicated than that. There is a lot of effort that is usually put into finding a college that fits an individual student. Most people research colleges and/or visit them first to get an idea of where they want to go.
Ms. Adams led a college visit for the Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) program to UCLA. These students took a 45 minute tour around the campus led by a senior from the college. They learned a lot about the history of the school and its traditions.
One of these traditions is about an inverted water fountain on the campus. Rumor has it, you can touch it one time your freshman year, but you can’t touch it again until you graduate. Otherwise, you will have to add an extra quarter to your college education.
The Griffith Observatory also caught the eye of these students. It was a huge room with a dome on top where they were shown a presentation about how the Earth changed over time. Jocelyn Valdez recalls, “It was at night so everything looked really pretty.” They saw all the big city lights and the students were even able to see the Hollywood sign from the Griffith Observatory. Inside, there were different stations about the universe, including a showcasing of meteorites that had fallen to earth and scales showing what you would weigh on other planets.
As you may already know, UCLA has quite a large campus, roughly 419 acres. The students were surprised to see how big the buildings really were. In the library, they saw a choir singing and John Lanza said that they “sounded like angels.”
There are a lot of different opportunities at this school, and Synai Salgado says,“It’s always good to branch out and do multiple activities.”
Despite the size of the campus, Amy Fangmeyer says that UCLA is “all around a close-knit community.” The students observed that everyone was serious, but they still looked like they were having fun. There was a positive atmosphere and everyone appeared to be glad to be there.
These students also noticed that the school was,“so organized, and yet nobody was being told what to do,” said Alex Morrissey. The students at UCLA walked on the right side of the pavement, like cars on a street. Throughout the campus, they would see “just a flood of people walk back and forth,” said Morrissey.
And if you’re wondering if you should visit UCLA too, the answer from these students is a definite yes. Morrissey described this college visit as,“a glimpse of what college was like.”
This experience has left a mark on these students, including Lanza, who mentioned that “UCLA is definitely one of my top choices.” They agreed that even if you are not interested in going to UCLA, it is still a good choice to visit.

"Party Poopers"

Last night, a major party was broken up at the old building of 37 Brooks. Many teens were there, intermingling, drinking, and listening to terrible sounding music. neighbors complained, and the cops soon showed up. "The music nearly made my eardrums bleed!" replies neighbor to the house, John Sanchez. He immediately called the police, and once the police and regulators arrived, it all broke loose. "what, with teens running in all directions, dogs biting people, and cops and regulators shouting over all of the noise, it was hard to hear myself think! I was trying to see what all was going on, but I couldn't! " Says Sanchez. Witnesses report that not many teens escaped, if any.  As you all know, parties of this stature are highly illegal, and anybody found participating in one of them shall be arrested. The dogs caught most of the teens, and 37 Brooks has been closed off, so that no more people can get inside.

Delirium Movie Review
Renowned movie critic Eugene Thompson comments on the new movie Delirium.

"Delirium, a disgusting thing in it's self, and this movie shows the dangers of it. It shows a normal girl, who is nervous about her Evaluation, who lives a fairly normal life. Evaluation day comes, and she messes up, until cows come in and save her from embarrassment, when she sees a boy. She goes on a run with her friend, and sees him again. She can't stop thinking about him, and they end up getting Delirium for each other. They secretly live in the abandoned house at 37 Brooks, and Lena is forced to go to parties with her friend Hana. After a while of concealing their love, they get caught, and the girl is taken to get a procedure. She's broken out, and her and the boy escape to the wilds, where the boy is killed. This movie is a great example of the dangers of Delirium, and what can come of it.

Cast Choices

The casting choices for this movie were phenomenal, and the actors really portray the characters well.

Cast
Lena- Jennifer Lawrence. She has done past work in the Hunger Games
Alex-Alex Pettyfer. He has done past work in I Am Number Four
Hana- Emma Stone. She has done past work in The Amazing Spider-Man.
Lena's mom- Sally Feild. She has also done past work in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Advice Column
Words of advice from Clark Kent, our editor in chief, and also an evaluator.

"Dear Clark,

I had been stressing out about my evaluations for weeks, and studied hard. Finally, they came, and I waited my turn, until I was finally able to go. I thought that I was doing pretty good, until some cows started stampeding all over the place! I got on to the table, and started to cry. My evaluations were moved. What the heck were cows doing there! What does this mean for my evaluation? Were the Invalids involved?!
Sincerely, Scared Teen.

Dear Scared,

Don't worry about it too much!

The cows were simply a shipping mix up. There was supposed to be a truck of fruits and vegetables for experimenting on. The evaluations will be moved according to time of day, and you have at least another two months before your next one. Do not be alarmed, it will be all right.

The Invalids do not exist, and you shouldn't be spreading rumors about it to any of your peers. The cows were a mix up, and it has been dealt with. Your evaluation will be moved and all past accounts of the first one have been erased, so that you may have a do over.

It has all been sorted out, and you should not worry at all. No Invalids were involved, it was a mix up, and the cows have been moved. It will all be fine, and all of your worries should go away soon! Happy evaluating!
Sincerely -Clark Kent.

Today, in Portland Lena Haloway was in the process of her evaluation. She was doing well, until some cows rushed in. We interviewed Lena.

Advice column:

Dear Carolyn,

I know a guy and a girl who are in love! Love is illegal! They have been sneaking out to illegal spots, doing bad things, and breaking the law! I have warned them about the regulators catching them, and the fact that they could get killed for this. However, they don't seem to care. I feel like I am a horrible person, a witness, am I?

Sincerely, Lovesick.

Dear Love,

yes, you are a horrible person! Do you not realize you are a witness of very illegal things, you could go to jail! However, I can relate to your situation, she is your best friend! With a good friendship comes sacrifices, this is one.  Go tell!

MOVIE REVIEW:

Delirium is a good book and movie about love! No, it is not your average romance, love is illegal. The movie is targeting ages 13 and older I was in for a huge shock during the movie.

In the movie a girl Lena meets a guy, Alex, a super hot guy, attractive man to Lena. Lena and Alex hit it off, and you can guess the rest.

Before I saw the movie, I read the book. The book was a long one, but the movie was perfect. The movie didn't get dragged on with unnecessary things but they also put in the perfect amount of detail.

Delirium was an amazing love story and thriller. there was so many twist and turns, it kept me wondering. Even though it is a mature movie, it would be a good family movie!

Just like in hunger games, delirium will keep you hooked. On the other hand Delirium is short sweet, and gets to the point, NOT dragged on. both movies are set in the future, they make you wonder, I give it TWO thumbs up!

The best part of your devastating lives!
Teens are waking up today with a big smile on their face! It's the big day for them. Today is the test to find out there match!
Last year we had tons and tons of teens lines up for the test. They all had rosy cheeks and a huge smile plastered on their faces. They just couldn't wait to answer the questions. Of course you know that they have been practicing them their whole life! Even though they knew all the answers, they still got nervous. The answers they gave changed their life forever!
Bring your teens down today, so they can enjoy themselves. You will be so happy when you see the smile on the kids faces! Bring your kids down today, but you really don't have a choice!
It will be an experience they wont forget. It will be an experience they wont forget! It will be drilled into their brains.
First, they will line you up in a single file line. Boys in one line girls in the other. They will be called in one by one. There will be a person with a clipboard. They will ask you a series of random questions. For example, whats your favorite food, whats your favorite color, etc... You will then answer, said, questions. they will write down your answers. You will then exit the testing room. They will then compare you answers to either a boy or girl. Finally, they will tell you who they got matched with!
  Dear Carolyn,
My niece has been sneaking out of the house lately. I think she is seeing a boy, she might even be in LOVE! In my town you have to get a cure, because they think love is a disease. If you fall in love they considered you diseased! They are so strict they have regulators, people who watch your every move, to make sure you are in the house at a certain time. If i was ever caught knowing that my niece has been braking the rules, i would get in so much trouble!! Should i turn her in or kept it a secret?
  Dear horrid aunt,
If you truly love your niece you wouldn't even think about turning her in! You should love her so much that you would sit down with her and talk about the problem! But if care more about yourself than her, turn her in!!!

ONLY A FEW TEENAGERS ESCAPED UNHARMED FROM THE RAID THE CRASHED THEIR HARMLESS PARTY!

On Saturday, July 4th, several teenagers were having harmless fun in an abandoned house. They were listening to music and simply dancing with each other! No one was hurt, or getting hurt until the horrid regulators showed up.

An anonymous eyewitnesses says that it was the most nerve wrecking situation they had ever been in. "The regulators came storming in loudly and they immediately let the vicious dogs out on us. They didn't give us any time to react, so we simply ran," the eyewitness began saying. "They began to hit us with sticks and some people even blacked out. I am thankful that I was able the escape to the Wilds." The eyewitness also explained how they were lucky enough to only escape with a hurt leg.

Many people didn't escape the horrible raid, and who know what might happen, or what might be happening to them. The regulators are truly terrible, but everyone seems to be brainwashed. Situations such as this should show the people the cruelality of them, but for many it's too late. For years regulators have tortured innocent people, but it's about time that changes.

I hope and pray that everyone who escaped that house in the night of the raid are okay, but more importantly I hope that the ones who didn't escape are okay. We need people to stand up and make a difference so that these things will never happen again.

Delirium Movie Review

In "Delirium", there's a world of disease, and that disease is love; also, the government controls everyone. Lena, the main character, falls in love and starts acting rebellious, just like every other teenager in a movie these days. I honestly find the movie to be too predictable, and the whole set up is exactly like many dystopian movies like "The Hunger Games", or "divergent", This movie has teenagers falling in love, fighting for their love, and fighting for their freedom. Cliche much?

Alex, the teenage boy whom Lena falls for, is probably the most predictable character in the book. He seems to do only one thing wrong, and that's lie to Lena. Then of course, she forgives him the next time she sees him.Situations like this don't just happen in real life, so why in a novel?

The movies actors were just about the only good thing about it. Some of the actors were Maia Mitchell, Shailene Woodley, Willow Shields, and even more.I just feel bad that they had to act in a movie like this.

All movies have the same contributions these days. I'm just waiting for a movie with something different than the rest of the world. This movie just isn't making the cut.
Advice Column

Dear Caroline,
So, there's this girl, and i might be falling in love with her. The problem is, there was a secret that i had been hiding from her since we met. Well....Until now that is. I'm an Invalid and she isn't, but lets just say she doesn't follow every rule in the rule book. We went to the beach together and everything was going great until, while we were in the water, I decided to tell her everything. As I was explaining, fear grew in her eyes, then she ran away from me. I understand she is mad, but i need to find a way to make her forgive me.Like i said earlier, i am falling in love with her. What do I do? -Confused Confessor

Dear Confused,
Let me just say you're a complete and total idiot! You lied to a girl; that's the number one rule on what not to do. If you expect her to forgive you right away... well you're wrong. It's cute and all, saying you're falling in love with her, but it wont be enough. You're going to somehow gain her trust back, but first, you have to get her to want to be around you. With how bad you messed up, try to save her life or something. If you cant do that, buy her flowers, and mostly, apologize. When you apologize, you have to make it 110% sincere. Say it like you mean it, even if you don't. Getting this girl back isn't going to be too easy. Hopefully she doesn't forgive your sorry butt too fast either. i literally cannot stress how entirely stupid you are. Well, that's all the advice I have. Hopefully it works for you, but if it doesn't, just know it's all your fault. -Caroline

Advice Column
Dear Carolyn,
There is this boy that I really like. But the problem is that my best friend likes him too. I want to be with him but I also want my best friend to be happy too. I also have a decease where I cant fall in love and if I do I could get really sick if its not at the right time. What do I do? Please Help!
-Freaked-out-Lover
Dear Freaked-out,
If you really like him just go for it. But if your best friend likes him too talk to her about it and see how she really feels about him. Maybe shes not all crazy in love with him like you think. Maybe she likes him but she might not care if y'all are together. But what ever you do wait for the right time and don't rush things because I don't want you to get sick or things to go wrong.

              ADVICE COLUMN
Dear Brook,
My best-friend has been acting very oddly since our evaluation. What has occurred is that she is listening to illegal music and also she's happens to be sneaking out after curfew and going to restricted parties, she has always been my best-friend and helped me with my problems and was like a sister to me. I just think that she is being very child-like and impractical! Wouldn't you say so too?
          Sincerely, Loving friend

Dear Loving, First I would call your self loving or a good friend because you're not very loving, if your are not there for your friend. If she is listening to illegal music tell her to stop, if she doesn't listen mind your own business. Also about the sneaking out just leave her alone she will notice how to do the right thing at the right time, just don't be a snitch and tell all her business. IT'S HER LIFE LET HER LIVE IT NOT YOU!
            Warm regards, Brook

Movie Review: Delirium 5 STARS
Lauren Oliver wrote delirium. It was a great BOOK BUT AN EVEN BETTER movie! The movie was set in Portland, Oregon, During the future. There is a disease known as delirium. Most get the cure after they are teens, but some get it while they are teens. This is because they fell in love at an early age. Lena Hallaway is suddenly caught up in love with a boy named Alex a few months before the evaluation for her husband. Alex tries to get her to run away with him. Will Lena decide to stay or follow Alex? Will she tell anyone?
