God wants us to care about what we look like but He doesn’t want that to be the purpose to our life because physical beauty fades away but spiritual beauty just becomes more beautiful.
Proverbs 11: 22 says, “Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.” People sometimes don’t understand what this means except that it is obviously not good. In short it means we should worry more about what goes into our head then what goes on it.
Proverbs 31:30 likewise says, “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord is worthy of praise.” Let’s not strive for outward beauty but for inner beauty because if we are complimented on our hair, what does it matter? If we are complimented on our character, however, now that would mean something!

Closing Thoughts
The last thing to say is on vanity. Every girl wants to be pretty. It’s natural and ok because that is the way God made them. There is a difference, however, between vanity and the want to look nice and in our day and age we get those lines very blurred.
Are we obsessing in how we look? Is that all we think about? If that is so, take a step back and remember what makes us beautiful. It’s not the makeup worn or the way hair is done or what blouse is on that day. It is God. He made us beautiful to begin with and He doesn’t want us to spend all our time thinking about how we look. God wants us to focus on Him.
We can look in the mirror and do our hair but let’s not obsess about what we look like because God already has us covered! Just be the beautiful person you are and let God “makeup” the rest.

  Up Braids
French Tuck
Wrapped Braid
For a fancier look, braided buns are also fairly easy but a little more time consuming. If it is a hot day do the three strand braided bun. Do a three strand braid and then tuck and wrap it around its self, till it is a little wrapped ball at the nape of your neck.
There is also the Tucked French braid. Do a normal French braid and tuck it up under its self and secure it with either hair pins or a hair clip. This is a good one for going out because it looks soft and sweet.
Hair Pins
Really thick and long hair might want to use hair pins instead of bobby pins to secure the bun because they are longer and have more grip. (If you have problems with getting bobby pins to work in your hair it is probably because they are either too big or too small, usually too small).
Bobby Pins
Of all the different types of braided buns these are the two I use the most. Very easy, very quick, giving a little more refined look then just a plain braid. With any style, though, remember that it will give an image. For example, recently I tried the “very in style” Milkmaid Braid where you make a braid on either side of the head then wrap them around and hair pin them on top so they are making a crown. I ended up not liking it because it took me forever to do and when I was finished it was really loose and felt like it was going to fall out and it made me look like… a milkmaid! Surprise!

       Braids
Before just throwing any hair style in this way or that, first determine if it goes with your outfit, plans, and you! As an all-out country, farm girl in denim skirts and button-up shirts, braids work pretty well. They are quick and easy when on the run, because there is always something going on, and they are cute, but not fancy which fits my style and place, often in the garden or at the kitchen sink. Braids don’t get in the way and they don’t fall out!
Just wearing a three strand braid all the time can be boring, though! What to do? Switch it up a bit! There are, we are finding out, tons of different kinds of braids! French, Dutch, fish tail, three strand, etc. The list is quite long and not all of them we have tried but the point is that we can all do different types depending on how much extra time we have and what the occasion is.
     French
         Dutch
The French and Dutch braids are fancier and could be used when going to church, a dance, or dinner.
The fish tail and three strand braids are more casual and would be something used when working or playing.
   Fishtail
Three-strand
All braids will give the appearance of innocence no matter what kind they are, it is just what people see, especially two braids. Sometimes two braids look really little girlish so if you don’t want to come across that way probably don’t do two braids.

   Argan Oil
The only other hair product we recommend other than shampoo and conditioner is Argan oil. It should be used every day and is probably the best thing that has ever happened to hair (Vegetable oil)!
Argan oil is an organic product made from the nuts of an Argan tree and is used for both healthy hair and healthy skin. Argan oil helps moisturize hair and give it a healthy glow and shine. It also repairs damaged hair and prevents brittleness if applied every day (Vegetable oil).
Use Argan oil to keep hair glossy, smooth, and easier to brush. Also, we have found since starting to use it, hair does not need to be trimmed as often and that the ends don’t split as much. Argan oil is a little expensive but is definitely worth it! We would encourage the research and the use of it.
Use Argan oil after you shampoo, condition, and comb your hair. Try not to apply it to the top of the head if avoidable because the scalp emits oil. The top of the head is what starts to look oily first, so we don’t need to add any unless we are trying to tame some frizz. No matter what kind of hair you have this oil will be beneficial to it.

Shampoo and Conditioner
To have beautiful hair, start at the beginning. Although there are lots of “hair care” products we do not think are healthy for hair, there are a few healthy products out there. They make hair thicker, glossier, give it body, and keep it from tangling.
The first type of hair product most know about is shampoo. The second type is conditioner. Shampoo is meant to clean hair of dirt and scalp oil while conditioner is meant to create shine, protect hair from drying out and make it easier to comb. There are so many different kinds of hair, and so many different types of shampoo and conditioner for that hair. The first step is to determine what kind of hair you have, to find out what kind of shampoo and conditioner is needed (Derrick).
For girls with curly hair, try Dove shampoo because it is a moisturizer, and curly hair tends to be dry.
For girls with straight hair, try Suave shampoo and conditioner but always pay close attention to the description on the hair product used. Noting whether it is for thick, course, thin, dry, long, short, or moist hair and then choose according to hair type.

      Beautiful Braids That Stay!
Hey everyone! Most of us have probably spent many hours in front of a mirror with a quizzical or disgusted look on our face as we scrutinize our, what we consider, unruly hair. How do we turn a mop of hair like this into a beautiful style that frames our face, brings out our eyes, and complements our outfit? This can be a frustrating feat but don’t give up and just through it in a ponytail! We can do it! Although spending our lives focused on our outward beauty is not the right thing to do there is nothing wrong with enhancing what God has given us. Let’s explore some ideas on how to make this whole hair thing work!

Hey everyone! EsMarie here. Thanks so much for checking out my post. This is just a little introduction on who I am and why I chose to write about this.

I was born in the Alexandria hospital in 1997 to Nate and Jess (I prefer not to give out last names). I am the third oldest of ten siblings and, being the oldest girl, have taken on many house and garden responsibilities while my mother is devoted to the littlest children. I grew up in rural Minnesota near Holmes City surrounded by fields, trees, and all other manner of creation which is probably one of the reasons I love it so much. As far back as I can remember I have loved to be outside in the garden or field planting, hoeing, and weeding vegetables for our family. I've worked for my grandpa, who runs an organic produce business and grows all his own vegetables, since I was twelve and have gotten pretty good at making things grow.

Myself and all of my siblings were home schooled by our mother in the school room located in the basement. Many fond memories are attached to that room where I struggled through learning math, reading, geography, history, and all the other subjects. I'm sorry to say we were not always dutiful students and would often fool around when Mother was out of the room but the peaceful scene of everyone with bent heads over our books is one quite fixed in my mind.

People often look at me strange when I say that my favorite thing to do is to be at home cleaning, cooking, and helping with my younger siblings but it is true! That is what I like to do! When I'm not doing it I miss it a lot! The main focus of my life, however, is to love God and to please Him and that is what I strive for.

The reason I chose this topic for my magazine is probably now clear to you. Raised in a home where I was taught to help everywhere you can, where you learn to clean and run a home, properly interact with small children, deal with suitors, raise a garden successfully, and live in purity, I have come to love these things and often wondered if there are other girls out there who feel the same way. This magazine is meant as an encouragement to girls like me or any young lady because it doesn't take a perfect home to enjoy being a lady, or lots of siblings or living in the country. It takes a lady to be one and every lady can do these things. So I hope this is a blessing to someone out there and I hope you keep reading these posts and maybe you will learn something you never knew! Enjoy!
